Unemployment Insurance (UI)	Unemployment insurance is designed to provide workers who have been laid off a weekly income during short periods of unemployment. The system is administered and funded by state and federal taxes paid by employers. The Federal Unemployment Tax Act (FUTA) authorized the Internal Revenue Service to collect a tax to fund state workforce agencies. The State Unemployment Tax Act (SUTA) taxes employers based on rates and procedures unique to each state.
